PRINTING FAQ

INTERESTED IN PRICING?

You can view a price sheet of all Maine Photo Works products and services here. Please note, many of our products are available in fully custom sizes. If you aren’t sure what size you need, we recommend reaching out to us rather than ordering through the website.

HOW DO I ORDER PRINTS?

If you already have your digital files, you can order online, send us an email, or stop into our studio during business hours with your files. If this is your first time ordering with us, we recommend that you order in person, via email, or over the phone so that we can help guide you through the process!

Please note that we only offer our most popular print sizes for online ordering. If you are interested in large and/or custom prints, please submit your files to our Dropbox and contact us to start the ordering process.

CAN I SEND YOU FILES WITHOUT ORDERING PRINTS?

Yes, if you would like us to determine the printable quality of the file, you can upload files up to 120 MB here. If your file is larger than 120 MB, you can upload it to our Dropbox.

WILL MY IMAGE FILE GET CROPPED?

If you use our online ordering system, your image will be cropped to the aspect ratio of the sheet size selected. If you do not want your image cropped and are not sure what aspect ratio it is, simply upload your image(s) here before placing your order and we can suggest an uncropped size or other solution that suits your needs!

DO YOU DO GICLEE PRINTING?

Yes, the printing we do on the fine art papers and canvas would be considered giclee.  The term simply refers to archival inkjet printing on fine art papers.

I RECENTLY HAD PRINTS DONE AT ANOTHER BUSINESS AND THEY CAME OUT POORLY. CAN YOU DO BETTER?

In almost every instance, yes. While a 100% match is never possible, we have a fully color managed workflow and follow graphics industry standards with the goal of producing prints as close to what we see on the monitor as possible.

In some special cases, a digital file does come up against the limitations of particular papers or was set up in such a way that matching it in print will be difficult. For this reason, the best place to start is with a free consultation. If you are able to come into the studio, we will sit down with you to preview your image on our monitor, go over the paper options, and explain any issues there might be with your file. Please contact us if you are interested in a private consultation or stop by during our regular hours!

WHAT COLOR SPACE SHOULD MY FILES BE IN?

We work on monitors that are able to display 100% of the Adobe RGB (1998) and sRGB color spaces and 98% of the P3 color space. For most, the sRGB space is going to provide the best results in print. However, the color space that you choose really depends on the device you used to edit it on and the device you used to capture it. If you’d like to know the best color space to use for your situation, please don’t hesitate to contact us. We can discuss your equipment and work flow and then decide what color space will produce the most accurate results in print.

STILL WORRIED ABOUT COLOR?

If it’s your first time ordering with us and you are concerned about getting the best possible results, it’s probably best to start with a test print. What this means is we print a strip of your image at the intended size on the paper you are interested in using. This will help us understand any discrepancies between our monitors so that we can address those issues before we get to the final print.

STILL HAVE QUESTIONS?

Please feel free to contact us or stop into the studio! We often take orders via email or in person for those who aren’t sure what they need. We are also happy to show you some paper samples here in the studio and provide free consultations up to 30 minutes.
